CGU Solid Earth Section presents: Transit of Venus!

June 5th, Elements 2012 Icebreaker attendees are invited to take part in a unique event - the transit of Venus cross the face of the sun!
The silhouette of Venus can be seen with the naked eye (with appropriate filtered glasses) throughout the icebreaker at the Banff Centre.
This is the last chance in our lifetimes to see this rare astronomical event -the next Venus transit will happen in 2117. It is indeed not often that one can stand in the shadow of our sister planet!
Handout solar viewing glasses and a solar telescope will be available at the icebreaker for viewing of the transit during the later afternoon until sundown.
